What is the Demi Pair program in Toronto?
A Demi Pair is a part-time version of the traditional Au Pair program. In this program, international young adults (aged 18–35) live with a local family in Toronto and provide part-time childcare in exchange for room and board. Unlike full-time Au Pairs, Demi Pairs work up to 20 hours per week, usually in the afternoons and evenings. In the mornings, they attend English language classes at Nacel Access English Toronto.
Working time and conditions
After classes, students work 20 hours per week with their host family, caring for the children and helping with household tasks. In exchange, accommodation and meals are provided, making their English studies very affordable.
Demi Pairs typically help with tasks such as:
- Picking up children from school
- Assisting with dinner preparation
- Setting the table and tidying up toys
- Accompanying children to after-school activities
- Helping with homework
Who is Demi-Pair for?
The Demi Pair program we offer at Nacel Access English Toronto is designed for students who want to experience Canadian life while saving up to half the cost of their English course.
Please note: Demi Pairs do not receive a salary, as the program is based on a cultural exchange—part-time help in return for accommodation and meals.
However, it's important to keep in mind that being a Demi Pair is a serious commitment, so participants may not always be able to join leisure activities like other students at the school.
