Levels
Testing
Students are required to complete an online placement test two weeks prior to beginning their course of studies at Nacel Access English Toronto. This way, students can be pre-placed in their classes and start attending class on the first day.
Based on your results, we will help you to set goals and come up with a plan for your English language learning at Nacel Access English Toronto.
Regular testing is an important part of the Nacel Access English Toronto program. At Nacel Access English Toronto you can expect to write tests every week. You will also be evaluated in other areas such as:
- homework completion,
- participation in class,
- oral presentations
- and group work.
Each week, depending on your program, you will write at least three short tests. You will also have longer, more comprehensive tests at the end of each unit you are working on.
These tests help your teachers determine your progress and judge whether you need more of a challenging level for your skills.
All teachers use a marking scheme when correcting students’ work. Your teacher will give you a copy on the first day of school. If you ever have any questions about the corrections a teacher makes to your work, please ask them to explain it to you.
Level Advancement
At Nacel Access English Toronto, we take a personalised approach to level advancement. Students may progress to the next level at any time, depending on their rate of improvement.
Your progress is evaluated regularly by your teachers. Both formal testing as well as informal monitoring of your day-to-day performance in class are methods used by teachers to assess your performance and progress.
Typically, most students advance within 8-12 weeks. However, it is possible to advance faster, or slower, depending on how quickly you improve.
Requirements to advance to the next level:
- Regular attendance (minimum 80%)
- Obtained a 80% average on all tests and assignments
- Meet at least 80% of criteria in their level
Once you have met the following criteria, you will be promoted and advanced to the next level.
Progress Reports
As a student at Nacel Access English Toronto you will be evaluated regularly. Monthly reports will detail your progress and suggest ways for you to improve. Your teachers will meet with you regularly to answer your questions and give you suggestions.
These reports help you to know which areas you should focus on improving.
Final Evaluation
At the end of your course of studies you will receive a Final Evaluation detailing your starting level, ending level, progress, attendance, achievements, as well as suggestions for further improvement. Certificate of Completion
After finishing your course, you will receive the Nacel Access English Toronto Certificate of Completion. Of course you must have good attendance and participation to receive our certificate. Show the certificate to prove your course completion, and keep it as a souvenir of studying at our school!
